Privacy Policy

This policy explains what OffSet Solar (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you visit offsetsolar.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. OffSet Solar publishes independent reviews, comparisons, and buying guides for portable power stations and solar equipment.

What we collect

Automatically, when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. This is collected through analytics and advertising cookies (below) and standard server logs.

When you give it to us:

• Newsletter — your email address, if you subscribe.
• Contact form — your name, email address, and whatever you write in your message.

We don’t ask for sensitive information (financial accounts, health, government IDs). Please don’t send it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how the Site is used — visitor counts, popular pages, and general behavior, in aggregate. GA4 collects your IP address, device data, and on-site activity. Google’s handling of this data is governed by its Privacy Policy. You can opt out across all sites with Google’s browser add-on.

Advertising

The Site displays ads served by third-party advertising partners. These partners use cookies and similar identifiers to deliver ads, including ads personalized to your interests based on your activity across this and other websites. To do this they may collect your IP address, device information, and browsing behavior.

You can opt out of personalized advertising through the industry tools at aboutads.info/choices, NAI, and, for the EEA/UK, Your Online Choices. You can also limit ad personalization in your Google account settings.

Affiliate links

OffSet Solar earns commissions through affiliate programs, including Amazon Associates and the Impact network. When you click certain outbound links and make a purchase, the retailer or its affiliate network sets a cookie to credit us, at no extra cost to you. Those cookies are set by the retailer, not by us, and fall under the retailer’s own privacy policy. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored and managed in Mailchimp, which handles delivery on our behalf under its own privacy policy. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

How we use what we collect

To run and improve the Site, understand how visitors use it, serve ads, send the newsletter if you’ve subscribed, respond to messages you send us, and meet legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your contact information. We share data only with the service providers that make the Site work — Google (analytics), our advertising partners, and Mailchimp (newsletter) — each acting under its own terms. We’ll also disclose information if required by law or to protect the Site against fraud or abuse.

Note on advertising: serving personalized ads involves our advertising partners receiving the data described above. Under some state laws this counts as “sharing” or “selling” personal information — see your rights below.

Your rights

California (CCPA/CPRA). You can request the personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete or correct it, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. Because the Site runs personalized advertising, the use of advertising cookies may be considered a sale or sharing under California law. You can opt out using the industry tools listed under Advertising, your browser’s privacy controls, and any “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control we provide on the Site. We won’t treat you differently for exercising these rights. To make a request, email legal@offsetsolar.com.

EEA / UK. If you’re in these regions, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or restrict your personal data, object to its use, or request a copy. Where we rely on your consent (the newsletter, and advertising cookies where consent is required), you can withdraw it at any time, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal; there’s no agreed standard for it, and the Site does not respond to it.

Children

The Site is meant for adults and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email legal@offsetsolar.com and we’ll delete it.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect, but no website can promise perfect security. We keep newsletter data until you unsubscribe, contact-form messages for as long as needed to handle your inquiry, and analytics data on a time-limited basis set within the tools we use.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, post a notice on the Site.
